Y/PROJECT: Men's show Spring/Summer 2019 (with interview)

Designer: Glenn MartensLocation: in the botanical gardens of the University of Medical Science and Biology in Paris, under sun and blue skies, Glenn Martens for Y/Project made a link between nature and the city, sportswear and streetwear. Collection: a black three-piece suit opened the show with gathered and draped detailing, followed by other soft-coloured versions. It is a question of construction and proportion but also of texture, technical materials, re-worked denim and disproportionate volumes. The shoulders are marked, draping takes shape on top of jackets, until it envelopes them, other pieces possess detachable pieces of fabric. The two-toned jeans are worn with hooded sweaters or cashmere motif shirts. To note: the parachute effect of nylon attached to jackets which become parkas.+ The tones: from pastels to more vibrant colours. + Some daring and promising womenswear. Interview of Glenn Martens:We’re celebrating things, we’re happy, we’re throwing a party… there’s volume, we can also adapt pieces, it’s a game! It’s freedom! We really worked on tailoring for the base which you can see, there are double layers, you can take off a layer… you can change your piece. And working on pop-up, we went further with the concept of garment construction, and so there are very simple pieces with these pop-up games.
