Work on volumes and materials are just some of the strong points of this latest collection by belgian designer, cédric charlier. round shoulders, the overhanging armholes of an oversized coat and the fluidity of baggy trousers with pleats on the side epitomise this silhouette’s nonchalant attitude. take note of the plays with pleats on faux leather and wool/cashmere prints that give reptilian, scale-like effects on dresses, skirts and sweatshirts. perforated fur evokes optical and shadowy illusions for a mesh look. both deep and light shades – ivory, bottle green, petrol blue - create contrasts whilst sequin studded knit tube dresses conclude this subtly feminine show in style. interview:cédric charlier:i wanted to give volume to the collection and to the clothes so we did a lot of work on the shoulders, armholes and sleeves and at the same time there is a very structured but not necessarily rigid aspect, so there is this whole construction that guides the materials which include wool, sometimes wool cashmere, and on top of these we printed the reptile sensations which are like reptilian illusions which is where the whole collection started and which helped me to build this entire wardrobe. we worked faux leather with folds and pleats in order to reinforce this woven reptile side.i wanted quite a nonchalant attitude so the dresses are not necessarily belted and i did jumper-dresses too; there are sweatshirts, unbuttoned coats with hands in their pockets.we thought about this idea of scales and so we mixed that with sequins that are embedded in the knitwear. what we have done differently are these embroidered dresses, produced in wool. music from the fashion show
