Ermenegildo Zegna Spring Summer 2014 Menswear Collection in Milan (with itw)

Ermenegildo Zegna opens the Milan fashion show on a sunny Saturday morning. Piazza Febbraio, an imposing structure, welcomes the long awaited return of Stefano Pilati. After fifteen months of absence from the catwalks, the former artistic director of Yves Saint Laurent adds his personal touch to this institution of Italian craftsmanship. A circular podium and projection of filmmaker Johan Söderberg depicts the new tempo and spirit of the brand. The locker room takes a more contemporary direction, thanks to a tasty mix of formal parts and other more casual ones. One can easily sense the dress style of the designer from Milan. We notice a lot of detail on the jacket, adorned with illusionary half-belt effects and rolled-over, draped sleeves. A scarf highlights the neck with elegance. The short jacket creates volume and is worn with fitted trousers. The colors and mixtures are united, harmoniously. Materials, key elements of the label, are not left out, with textures both stressed and relaxed. A new wind of modern change blows across Zegna’s empire.

Interview
Tim Blanks :
You know, when i first heard about Stefano and Zegna, it was obviously a very intriguing collaboration, as they call it in the notes, because he has such a distinct personality and Zegna has a distinct personality. And I was very impressed today about how they went together so well, it makes the clothes look desirable and I would say the softness has a slightly decadent twist to it. The clothes looked very desirable I thought. The idea of the broken suit, the way, en now put things together is slightly less formal but not formal, and you know, the long t-shirts roll back over – that’s very him. You know the way he used to wear – well he probably still does; sandals with suits and things. It had that feel to me, its not so much relaxed but just languid, you know those big soft shoulders and those coats that were bathrobes almost; that was what I responded to.
